What makes something sacred?
To me all things are sacred. All things spring from Divine Mind. There is no exception to this. There has been an on going debate for several years between me and close significant other pertaining to what we commonly call "special".
If all things are sacred / special can one thing or person be more sacred or special than another?
From the perspective of Divine Mind or God Consciousness it is all sacred… you, me, the villain, the victim, the saint, the oppressor… all divine, all sacred.
From the perspective of ego I buy into separateness and assign value and meaning to things and people insomuch as they serve my egoic wants and needs. These things become mine, special and take on a distorted perspective of sacredness because of the immense attachment my ego has to them. Those things and people that I have no ego attachment to are unimportant to me and therefore dispensable or disposable, not sacred.
I am not condemning the ego. I am currently in a process of recognizing the value of the ego as it pertains to assisting me in motivation toward the life that I want. Ego is driving force that helps propel me through resistance. I may have recently silenced my ego in an effort to live a mindful and conscious life and in doing so I may have created an imbalance. I am not sure… perhaps it is just that I am shifting from my ego being in control to my ego being my aide and servant. I am still working with this.
I must take care to see the sacredness and separateness of all things simultaneously.
